Mile 0 · The trailhead

Everybody has a long game. Let's train for yours.

Long Game is a personal growth club, built on career coaching from an operator who led teams at Nike, Adobe and Cisco and got laid off more than once along the way. Coaching for your next move, free tools to map it, and a crew that keeps you climbing.

Built at Nike · Adobe · Cisco · Eagle Scout

Preseason kicks off November 1. First sessions Monday, November 2. Season 1 starts January 1. Portland, Oregon and worldwide by video.

Who it's for

Coaching for every stage of the game.

Senior

Mid-career and senior operators

A layoff, the move into Director or VP, or a pivot out of big tech and big brands. You need a strategy, not just a polished resume.

Early

Early-career professionals

Direction, habits and confidence, built early. Group training gives you structure, accountability and a crew moving the same way.

Change

Career changers

A new industry, a new function, or the jump from corporate to founder. You don't have to figure it out alone.

Next gen

The next generation

My own kids are just starting their long games, and they're the heart of why this exists. The habits you build early carry through every season.

Mile 3 · How it works

From first call to your next season.

Every player follows the same four steps. The pace and the program change, the order doesn't.

  1. 120 minutes · free

    Intro call

Where you are, where you want to go, and whether coaching is the right move right now.

  2. 2Before session one

  3. 36 to 12 weeks

    Training

Training Camp or First Team: strategy, story, network and interviews, one week at a time.

  4. 4Ongoing

    Conditioning

Stay sharp between moves, so the next search starts from strength instead of scramble.

Mile 5 · Meet your coach

I'm Mike Leighty. My career was never a straight line.

I grew up in Pleasanton playing year-round at Ballistic United Soccer Club, the level that's the equivalent of MLS NEXT today. When I wasn't on the field I was in the backcountry with the Scouts, building trail and earning Eagle. On the pitch, on the trail and later in business, I kept ending up as the person leading the group.

I started at Cal Poly Humboldt, finished at Cal State East Bay, and earned my MBA in international business and sports management at Saint Mary's College of California while working in investments, asset management and personal training.

I ran and grew Cisco's Fast Track program. At Adobe I led global sales contact center operations through the move to subscriptions, as the business grew from $200M to $2B. At Nike I led Scaled Analytics Portfolio Management, moving a 400-plus person organization to a product-based operating model.

I've also been laid off more than once. Each time I kept going and kept growing. That's the long game, and it's what I help you play.

Alongside Long Game I co-founded and lead Second Rein Solutions, Bay Light Farm and Oregon Horse Haven. On Sunday mornings you'll usually find me at the co-ed pickup game I run in Portland.

I used to think a layoff meant I wasn't good enough. It usually isn't about that, and it wasn't for me.
Coach Leighty

Everybody has a long game. The setbacks are part of it.

Why Long Game

An operator, not a theorist.

Advice from someone who has hired, led, been laid off and built businesses from scratch.

The whole career, not one search.

Support doesn't stop at the offer letter. Conditioning keeps your next move starting from strength.

A fit at every stage.

Group training for early careers, one-on-one depth for senior leaders, and a clear path to move up.

Mile 6 · Questions

Before you lace up.

Anything else, ask on the free call or email me.

How do I know which program is right for me?

Start with the free intro call. We'll talk through where you are and where you want to go, and I'll recommend Training Camp, a Conditioning level, Film Room, or nothing at all if you don't need it.

Do you coach by video or in person?

Both. Most sessions are by video, so I coach people anywhere in the world. In-person sessions are available around Portland, Oregon.

I was just laid off. Where do I start?

Training Camp is built for exactly this. In six weeks we get your strategy, story and search moving, with a clear plan for each week.

Can I switch Conditioning levels?

Yes. Many people start at one level and move up or down as their goals and schedule change.

When are the next Backcountry and Off-Season trips?

The first Backcountry trips open in spring 2027. Off-Season retreats and Away Days run in small groups through the year. Email me and I'll send dates as they're set.

Do you only work with people in tech?

No. My background spans tech, retail and enterprise operations, and the fundamentals of a strong career strategy carry across industries.

Do you work with companies?

Yes, through Front Office: advisory work, fractional and project leadership, and coaching for teams in transition. See Front Office.
